McCormick says she'd consider Congress run

The long-circulating rumor that U.S. Rep. Mark Green, R-Green Bay, might run for governor in 2006 took another step toward reality this week.

Green sent an e-mail to Republican leaders Tuesday saying he was "moving toward a grassroots campaign" to go after Gov. Jim Doyle in the next election.

He's one of two politicians making noises about joining the race. The other is Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, who on Wednesday issued a "state of the state" rebuttal hours before Gov. Doyle made his State of the State speech to the Legislature.

The e-mail said he would spend the next few weeks "talking to leaders like you to gain your insight on the governor's race. I've known most of you for many years and know that I can expect honest input and solid advice. I hope you won't be shy."

Where have I seen a tactic similar to this....

I live in Green Bay, this statement alone is enough for me to decide Green must go, and I'm not talking about to the Governor's office. This statement demonstrates he is a partisan, intent on dividing the people of this state with labels similar to the way his party has used the schoolyard name calling tactic to divide OUR country.

3. Green May be a highly charged GOP type

but his overall state reputation (to the extent he has one) is that of a moderate conservative in the TT mold.

He might do quite well in a GOP primary and could give Doyle a race, course it is still way early in the game.

I remember when he was a camp counselor at U-Ni-Li-Ah up by Mountain, when I was in 6th grade & snuck into our cabin in the middle of the night to suck face with our counselor - who is now a Pro golfer.

5. Bah

Green will never win state-wide. Here's hoping he does run; he's way too partisan and way too conservative to carry places like Madison and Milwaukee, and he's going to have to do a lot better than garnering strong support in Green Bay to win state-wide. Once they get a whiff of what he's selling, they'll decide to stick with Doyle.

Doyle's not even all that liberal; that's what gets me about Green's moronic talk. Green's always been a partisan hack, and once people see that he's not in the TT mold, but rather in the John Michels mold, they'll turn him away at the door.

Mean time, he'll lose his House seat. So that's a win-win for Wisconsin.

8. Doyle is doing a good job

Once they get a whiff of what he's selling, they'll decide to stick with Doyle.

I don't pick up any sort of groundswell against Doyle, even in the northeast part of the state. People seem pretty happy with the job he's doing. And that's despite the budget mess the Republicans left for him to clean up.

6. I hope he gets the nomination.

He's less of a knob, AND he's less electable statewide than Scott Walker.

Walker's the real danger in this election. And that would be a tragedy.
