Nazi Germany survivor, political involvement advocate dies at age 78

Gerda Gunderson stood up for what she believed in.
She worked as a translator for the Americans in Germany during World War II. She later fled the country, with Soviet soldiers right on her trail. And she believed voting was a privilege, never missing an election after moving to the United States in 1947.
Gunderson's influence still can be felt today through the political involvement of her children. One daughter, Marlys Matuszak, is the chairwoman of the Marathon County Democratic Party, while another daughter, Terry Shulta, is a caseworker for U.S. Rep. Dave Obey, D-Wausau.
For those of you that know Marlys, now we know where she gets her drive from. I knew her mother but never had a clue as to her background. The article is worth the time to read, especially the last paragraph. I wish we had more people like Gerda!
