Fox Valley Training to Stop the Ban
Tuesday, June 28, 6-9pm
At the Fox Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship: 2600 Philip Lane in Appleton
Please register by contacting Action Wisconsin: Speaker@ActionWisconsin.org
As you may know, state lawmakers are pushing a constitutional amendment that would ban marriage and civil unions for gay and lesbian couples. The Legislature is likely to take up the amendment again any time and will probably place it on a statewide ballot in November 2006.
To defeat the amendment, we will need to reach thousands of Wisconsin voters with face-to-face interactions and personal stories over the next 18 months. We can't reach enough people without your help.
Come to this training:
+ If you are interested in feeling more prepared and effective when communicating with friends, family, and neighbors
+ If you want to educate your organization about the harms the amendment will do to Wisconsin families
+ If you want to put the message and the debate on our turf-explain how families need vital protections provided by the rights and responsibilities of civil marriage
The Action Wisconsin Speakers Network is a statewide effort to educate Wisconsinites about the proposed constitutional ban on civil unions and marriage. Following our short, three-hour training, you may join the network to help outreach to and educate individuals and groups.
We welcome all people interested in stopping the ban, particularly non-gay people who want to help defeat the amendment. You do not need to commit to being a public speaker to attend.
Tuesday, June 28th, from 6-9pm in the Fox Valley UU in Appleton at 2600 E. Philip Lane (off of Highway 441 at East Calumet St, then south on Matthias St.)
Please register by June 27th by contacting Lindsey at 608-441-0143 ext 309, or Speaker@ActionWisconsin.org with your name, address, phone, and email.
Attend the speakers training to learn more about the amendment and how to convince the people of Wisconsin to oppose it. This training will assist you, along with hundreds of people statewide, to more effectively communicate with family, friends, colleagues and neighbors about the ban.
Together, we will reach thousands of Wisconsin voters.
Action Wisconsin has already sponsored six other speakers' trainings throughout the state. Trained speakers use the skills they learn in their day-to-day lives, and many have also spoken with organizations such as League of Women Voters in Door County, churches, community forums, and student groups.
Personal contact with individuals and organizations changes peoples' minds. Please join with us on June 28th to make the difference.
Following training on speaking about the amendment, you can be added to our Speakers Network, which will be part of an aggressive campaign to organize speaking engagements in your community. Speaking engagements include everything from house parties and church meetings, to town halls and college forums. We will work with you individually to match you with speaking engagements, taking your schedule and interests into account.
