More than 1,000 Wisconsin National Guard soldiers were notified over the weekend that they'd been called to active duty.
The two battalions going active in early August include about 450 soldiers from the Marshfield, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids areas, according to Lt. Col. Tim Donovan, director of public affairs for the Wisconsin National Guard.

One infantry battalion and one artillery battalion from the Wisconsin National Guard's "Red Arrow" Infantry Brigade received mobilization orders. In total, about 1,020 soldiers from the following units received orders for 545 days of active duty. About a year of that time is expected to be served overseas. The units are:

The 1st Battalion, 120th Field Artillery, headquartered in Wisconsin Rapids, has batteries in Marshfield, Stevens Point and Clintonville. It also maintains Detachment 1, HHS in Mosinee

I know a lot of the kids who signed up to get money for college....I'm truly concerned for their safety....most were friends of my son....

Seems sort of surreal. So far only my cousin's husband...who I don't know at all...has been sent to Iraq. I hope they'll all be ok.

3. wow sign up for some $ and patriotism
and get fucked by greedy dihonest hypocritical monsters. I would guess a third of the money spent on this war ends up in Cayman Island accounts as they cut money for vets and deny health cccccoverage for reserve.

4. Sorry to hear that your community is now on active status....
...but to BushCo this is far better than any old draft system. They can have boots on the ground on the border of Iran within days instead of months.

10. On WPR Monday
Joy had as a guest a man who is in the reserves and his three year contract is up, but due to "stop-loss" he isn't being discharged and instead is to be shipped to Iraq. Right now he is AWOL.

What BS. The guy's time is up. Let him go. Honor the contract.
