Pound Baptist minister blasted for homophobic sign.
Edited on Wed Jul-06-05 07:08 PM by JonathanChance
This asshole is practically in my backyard, what a fucking tool.
Right-Wing Dickheads like this guy are exactly why I miss Stevens Point.

It's a small Baptist church in the small community of Pound that is creating a big controversy.

A pastor at Pioneer Baptist Church put messages on a sign outside the church. One side read, "When homosexuality is mentioned in the Bible it is always condemned." On the other side, "Homosexuals don't need affirmation, they need redemption."

(snip)

Lykins said the goal of the sign was to provoke discussion and make a statement but the feedback has been extreme on both sides of the issue.

(snip)

Pastor Lykins took down the words Wednesday.

BTW, this is the same church that had a sign a few years ago that said "Allah says 'Die for me', Jesus said, 'I died for thee'".

Green Bay Area DUers, they may run this story again at 10.

1. Wasn't there something like judge not lest ye be judged in the Bible?
I also vaguely remember, let he without sin cast the first stone. Guess I'm confused with some other book.

2. I don't thiunk these motherfuckers even give a shit.
On an unrealted notion, I'm still impressed that the Green Bay media made it up there, ususally if the story doesn't involve someone getting killed, they could care less about what goes on north of Green Bay.

Must be a slow news day for them to come up here.

3. Then there's my favorite cherry pick from the Xtian Bible:
Jeremiah 25:27 "This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Drink, get drunk and vomit..."

6. He hammed it up for the camera, eh?
As for the Pound resident they interviewed who didn't like it. I know her, she runs a hair salon right next door to the fire station. Knowing the attitudes of Pound, I'm going to predict that she's going to lose a few customers.

9. In a town named Pound...
I think bringing up homosexuality isn't too kosher...:D

(Been through Pound many times, going up to Oconto county.)

10. In a town like Pound -
I don't think many know, let alone care, what "kosher" means. :)

(I've been there, too, en route to Pembine - my dad's hometown)

12. Yeah, You're probably right.
They've got two Fundie Baptist, a 7th Day Adventist, and a Pentacostal Assemby Of God church in town. That town is an enclave of fundiebots.

Then again, there is an ELCA church which I was raised in just outside of town, they're not bad.

11. Well, Pound does have something of a claim to fame....
Back during the early 90s Slim-Fast had an ad campaign centering around Pound. They put a bunch of people from Pound on the Slim-Fast Plan and used the ones who succeeded in losing weight to hawk the product in commercials.
