Gaylord Nelson Wilderness Park

On July 13, there will be a ceremony to honor Nelson at the state capitol, and on Aug. 8, the 33,500-acre Gaylord Nelson Wilderness within the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore will be dedicated, a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to preserving our resources for future generations.
“Some will no doubt say that is unfortunate Senator Nelson never got to see the Gaylord Nelson Wilderness,” said Lakeshore Superintendent Bob Krumenaker. “But he did. He say it decades before anyone else.”
Having a vision for the future that includes wilderness, clean air and water is a legacy for which we can all be grateful.
