My LTTE in the Racine Journal-Times
Speeches Are Repeats

Watching the President's speech from Fort Bragg, I could not help but marvel at how much it sounded like his speech from one year ago, and how much that speech, in turn, sounded so much like the speech he gave the year before that.

Perhaps this will become a new tradition - every June the president delivers a speech promising that success in Iraq is ever-so-close.

We have made no measurable progress in Iraq during the past two years, other than holding a "Potemkin Village" election last January. Tragically and ironically, while the president was encouraging America to be patient with his failed foreign policy, we were learning that scores of American soldiers had been killed by insurgents in Afghanistan, making today one of the bloodiest days in months.

This administration has been nothing but promises and predictions when it comes to Iraq. But every one of those predictions have been proven false, and every promise broken.

I've said this a million times, and I'll say it again: we need to become prolific letter writers. Once a week, everybody on DU should write a letter to their local newspaper -- not so they'll be published, but so the editors know that we're watching. It really does influence coverage.

1. Great letter Jeff!
Our paper has a once-per-month publishing rule....right now I'm dead in the water until August 5 but I keep sending them my opinion on their editorials anyway.

They know we're watching.

Good suggestion.

4. Excellent work, Jeff!
You've managed to write a letter that doesn't sound like it comes from a party hack. I think keeping the partisan rhetoric down makes letters sound much more convincing.

I look forward to seeing more. :toast:

I screwed up and got one printed in Journal/Sentinel last month. They will only allow 1 every 60 days.

6. Thanks for that info...
I've sent several to the J-S (they published one in May) and I was wondering if they weren't interested anymore or if they had a time limit.
