1. Head to a public place with A/C to cool off |
|
either a mall, supermarket, or hang out at a friends house with A/C today.

2. Or pour some cool water and sit in the bathtub.. |
|
...when it gets bad. You'll look like a prune, but you'll stay cool. Suppose you could read a book while you're in there.

I grew up in the Midwest, and that has happened to me. I honestly don't know what people did before AC. I think that may be why houses there over sixty years old had high ceilings and big windows. But they sure don't now. You may be able to find some cooling and heating companies in the phonebook who will service on a weekend, but they'll charge you plenty extra for emegency service.

4. Call a friend, head to the mall, get to a pool and make arrangements |
|
to stay somewhere else tonight. You may be able to get an A/C guy out there, but I suspect it will be crazy expensive.
Can you call a friend and stay with them for a day or two while it's being fixed? That would be your best bet. If not and depending on your financial situation, you might even think about a hotel for the night.

and except for just a few nights in the summer, the temps usually go down at night to the low-to-mid 60's or, if we're lucky into the mid-50's and that cools the whole house down pretty well.

11. If you can afford it they have portable units at Targets or Kohls |
|
I saw an ad last month approx. $300.00. It is like those tower fans.
My AC died in 2000 during a serious heat wave in the Northeast. The problem is that it seems everyones AC goes out on the hottest days and it took a week and a half to get the new unit installed.
I feel for you, it is a hot year.

16. My neighbor doesn't have AC. |
|
They always open their windows up as soon as the sun sets and close them again when they get up in the morning. 60 degree air will usually last them well into the afternoon. Plus they have their basement finished off, so they spend a lot of time there. It's possible to live without AC. :)
