Of course, on the worst days, it is an exercise in complete futility. There are a number of very large cultural and economic reasons why Wyoming is so conservative. The idea that we are gonna change this state blue any time soon is ridiculous. (We're just tickled pink that the Gov is a Dem.)
On the best days, however, being a Democrat / Progressive in Wyoming is a calling. It's an ambassadorship. It is a mission. It's damned-near exciting.
Because we are so small in relative numbers, we are much more under scrutiny. We are much more visible; we stand out in a crowd. Without any additional effort, we already have people's attention.
So we gotta be sharp. There's no BS-ing our way through. Among all those Republicans, at least one of them is going to have their talking points down pat. So having the facts in order is an essential survival skill. If your bluffing, they will call it, and you will lose.
All this instant visibility is great, because our most achievable objective is to provide the alternative point of view, to let those who are willing to listen that there is another, and indeed better, way. Most crucially, we provide hope to those who think differently that they are not alone, that they aren't the ones who have lost their marbles.
As I said, "It's a MISSION!"
