I'm worried Harper is succeeding in re-inventing himself as a patriot.
What bothers me is the overall impression he's now fraudulently creating. This man, who went before right-wing American groups a few short years ago, and made fun of Canada, saying we were more or less a pathetic country, is now posing as a super patriot who loves Canada! The bullshit that he has evolved is just that....BULLSHIT. He was in his forties when he made the derogatory remarks. Are we to believe he was suddenly struck with a revelation of what a great country we really are?....What I'm referring to of course, is his George Bush wannabe act over in Afghanistan. He flew in taking over the controls for a stretch a la Bush when he made his landing on the aircraft carrier. Then Harper's speech to the troops said he would never cut and run, another Bushism and to top it all off he ends with God bless Canada, a worthy prayer if it weren't for the fact that it's another George Bush ploy. What scares me is that he may be selling this bullshit to the Canadian public, most of whom do not follow everything political as closely as we on this forum do.

1. Why not point out
the obvious?

Harper is simply using the troops as an political toy to boost his sagging support? He doesn't care about them or the so-called mission--he is using Canada's military as a prop--that's all and people should call him on it.

The creep went to Afghanistan so he wouldn't have to actually come up with anything other than Rove-ism.

If he was in Canada, then the press could legitimately question him, the 'mission', the Tory's foreign policies, and any number of things.

2. That may be obvious to you and me, but most of the population is not
following politics in the same way. Many of them just go by the superficial pictures they see of him on TV. Right now, as I'm writing this Mike Duffy is showing a clip of Karzai of Afghanistan, thanking Harper for all the wonderful things our troops are doing. Mike of course is falling all over himself in admiration of Harper for going there.

4. I am glad he went
As someone that has relatives in the military and one in Afghanistan I think its great he went there for a visit .
I am very proud of my relatives that are serving this country as I hope all Canadians are.

6. I never said Canadians as a whole are not proud
of our service men and women , but I see some who seem misinformed and then there are those that are just anti military . I think Harper had some valid points in the speeches you are referring too , but again you are off topic and I do not see what one has to do with the other .I have told you before that I do not agree with everything that anyone does much less politicians , I was only commenting on the Afghanistan trip.

7. You
Are way off topic. No one but the Conservatives are trying to create a division between Canada's military and the Liberal Press. Seems like you are one of them.

You seem to know everything about everything. How smart of you!

8. You have been beating the drum for Harper since before the election.

Harper is a right-wing zealot who is posing as a middle of the roader in order to fool the public into accepting him. He does NOT fool those of us who are aware. And you don't fool us either.
