Am I the only one who thinks Harper is making us a target?
Yeah, we already are, but if he keeps up this fucking bravado we'll get bumped to the top of the list.
Yes, we're in Afghanistan... but we don't have to pound our chests about it.

Plus, Harper, "We won't cut and run" get your own fucking material.

1. Not by a long shot!

I was just saying this yesterday as we watched the news. I have to wonder if he wouldn't secretly like for something to happen here, to feed his neo-con obsession.

I'll never understand politicians who are aching to make us more like the U.S. Do they have any clue what it's like to actually live there?

2. Yes we are becoming a target

Most countries that have fought alongside the Americans in recent years have eventually been attacked by the Jihadists. Why would it be different for us?

I say that as someone who, like 41 per cent of all Canadians, is opposed to the Afghan mission.

Having said that, it needs to be noted that there is only one party right now in the House of Commons that even vaguely opposes this deployment (the Bloq).

This being the case, if and when an attack is mounted against Canadians, it will be rather hard for the Liberals or the NDP to lay the political blame for it squarely on Harper.

What are they going to say: It's Harper's fault because he gave visibility to a military intervention we did not oppose, but would have preferred to stay quiet about.

I find it sad that, outside of Quebec, there is no party speaking up for the large number of Canadians who are oppposed to this mission.

It is disturbingly similar to the US, where substantial antiwar sentiment has little significant political respresentation in Washington.

Equally disturbing is that our media at this point is playing exactly the same propaganda role as the US media played in the early days of the Iraq fiasco.

I believe these are all ominous signs.

4. disingenuous
"I find it sad that, outside of Quebec, there is no party speaking up for the large number of Canadians who are oppposed to this mission."

From the Globe and Mail today:

"The Liberals, who launched the mission, support the deployment while the NDP and the Bloc Québécois want a vote."

From March 8:

"Is Canada being drawn into an American fight in Afghanistan? Alexa McDonough seems to think so. The NDP foreign affairs critic says the more we get embroiled in Afghanistan, 'the more we just look like a handmaiden to George Bush.' Many Canadians agree."

Who's not speaking up, except to support it? The effin' Liberals, who put us there in the first place.

6. Here's courageous Jack in today's Globe...
New Democratic Party Leader Jack Layton said his party is still gathering information and has yet to decide whether it supports the expanded role that Canada is playing in the region.

He said it would not look good for Canada's Prime Minister to deny MPs a vote on a military mission aimed at encouraging democracy.

"We think it would be ironic that we're defending democracy in another country but not permitting a fundamental democratic process in our own," he said.

Jack is, of course, hoping to have it both ways: he will furiously demand a debate to assuage his core, but won't actually oppose the mission because he fears alienating the large numbers who support war.

As for Libs, they are pretty well in even worse shape, having actually approved the mission when they were in office.

I note, though, that Jack didn't oppose the Libs when they signed up for the escalated mission, but was contgent even back then to just blather on about process, having a debate, blah, bhah, blah.

Talk about disingenous.

So Minstrel Boy, are you happy with courageously calling for a debate, the outcome of which is a forgone conclusion (Headline: "MPs Support War!"), or can you muster enough independent thought to actually oppose the weak stand taken by your leader?

words properly?....It's defend "their" country....not "there" country.
And as usual you are wrong with the facts. France had a great resistance force during world war 2. They fought the Nazis underground, right to the end of the war....Where did you get your information? No doubt from the same people who decided to call "French fries" "freedom fries!"

10. It would be helpful to the Conservatives if we were hit
It would lend support to the "get them there before they get us here" mentality that they are cultivating.
