Liberals announce new rules for would-be leaders

Ottawa — Chastened federal Liberals began their rebuilding effort Sunday by slashing entrance fees and the limit on leadership campaign spending in an effort to attract a wide field of aspirants.

However, the spending cap for each candidate of $3.4-million could be a burden for some, even though that's down from the $4-million in the previous race that elected Mr. Martin.

Could be interesting or could be a bore. Seems like there is not going to be time to redefine things but rather a rush to judgment.

All the while it looks to me like it could still gather some momentum if others are brought in with their ideas.

It seems like the NDP just want to ride out the dissatisfaction with the Liberals and will be left behind if thy don't start coming up with something that speaks for the voters.

Why Jack and the NDP want BOTH the Tories and Liberals to eclipse them in both media and Parliamentary coverage, who knows...

Now is the time for them to come out strongly on the issues that define them as THE only alternative to the Liberals.

The Tories have now have a good solid right hook to the liberals' glass jaw--note the talking points on daycare, for instance.

The NDP really have to get out in front of the newscycle on these national issues,so they don't get 'blended' by the Tory attacks on their 'strawman' left arguments.

I don't think Jack's team has a strong national focus and are TOO fixated on the politics of Southern Ontario.
