Explosion at Tim Hortons in downtown TO
Okay...what am I missing here? There was initial live coverage of this on CTV Newsnet earlier this afternoon...but now, it's back to pandas and the Juno Awards.... And where's CP 24 on this...or Newsworld? Guy walks into washroom at Tim's, there's a loud bang, and he's dead...with burns on his body. Newsnet anchor chick even mentions something about "unconfirmed" reports of him wearing an explosives belt. Way to stoke the fire there lady. Anyway...kind of a big deal, potentially...at least till we get the word there was nothing 'international' in scope about what happened? Am I being silly?
Dude walks into a Tim's at Yonge and Bloor and dies in an explosion in the bathroom. Sound run of the mill to you?

Okay, I'll take off my tinfoil hat now.

Here's a link...

1. My opinion?
Sad to say it, but ladies and gentleman Canada has just been attacked by terrorists for the first time since the 70s.
Sounds like this guy planned to take out a bunch of Timmy's customers and fucked up.

The spooky part is, I had a dream last night that we were attacked.

2. Time will tell what it was....
....but it sure as hell isn't your typical Sunday afternoon at the donut shop. I would think by now as well that we'd have some sort of inkling as to whether what happened was accidental (i.e. boiler explodes in room next to washroom) or intentional, or at least suspicious. Where's the media's sense of urgency on this....that's all I'm really saying at this point.

Colour me confused.

3. Canadian media doesn't operate like US media
US media would have wall to wall coverage of "Doughnut shop explosion" for now, the Canadian media is reporting only what is known.
Which, is the proper way to do it.
There's no point in running continuing coverage of what could just be a boiler explosion.
If the cops say "Explosives" then it'll go balls out.

4. I think it was local CHCH Victoria news that said "no terrorism link"
Just some guy with a container of gasoline.

That could mean just about anything.

No terrorism in deadly Toronto doughnut shop explosion: police
Last Updated Sun, 02 Apr 2006 21:16:42 EDT
CBC News

Police have ruled out terrorism as the cause of an explosion at a Tim Hortons doughnut shop in a trendy downtown area of Toronto on Sunday, killing one man.

The victim was likely an arsonist or attempting suicide, Staff Sgt. Don Cole of Toronto police told reporters hours after the explosion.
Emergency officials walk outside the Tim Hortons in Toronto where an explosion killed a man on Sunday.

"He's not a strap-on al-Qaeda bomber guy," Cole said. "It sounds to me like a guy who either wanted to do a torch job or commit suicide."

Police said the man apparently carried a can of gasoline into a washroom stall about 1 p.m. local time at the doughtnut shop in the city's Yorkville area, and set off a flash fire that killed him.

6. Well, that's a relief to say the least.
I just hope they are right.
