Stephen Harper Catch Phrase Contest

Does Prime Minister Stephen Harper's speech ending, "God Bless Canada!" make you cringe? When you hear our leader declare those three words, is it akin to fingernails on a chalkboard? Well you're not alone. According to a recent unscientific, unplanned and completely disorganized survey conducted by a couple of local squeegie kids with a few hours to spare, Atlantic Canada Live discovered that nearly 92.6753 per cent of those polled wished that the PM would come up with a snappier way of ending his speeches.

Reasons were varied - some respondents were atheist, others were agnostic and even more worship a different diety altogether. The 6.5 people who thought that Jean Chretien was still the PM were disqualified. But the common theme expressed by all those polled indicated consternation that Mr. Harper's speech endings are nothing more than a cheap rip-off of the decades-old three word phrase used by the last 10 or 11 American presidents. Some went so far as to suggest that Harper's "God Bless Canada" is perhaps code for "I Love You, George W", similar to Carol Burnett's show ending where she tugged on her left ear as a way of conveying a secret message to her mother.


So what's a prime minister to do? We at Atlantic Canada Live believe we have the solution. With your help we're going to come up with a new, snazzy, original closer for Mr. Harper's speeches.
