To Liberals and potential Liberal voters, your preference? I'm abstaining because I'm neither. I just like polls.

"Other" includes Martha Hall Findlay, who's already announced her candidacy, and possibles like Hedy Fry, Ruby Dhalla, Paul Zed....

1. Excuse me, but Hedy Fry is not just an "Other"....

....surely she deserves her own category if Maurizio Bevilacqua (who the hell is he anyways? - I know an MP, but seriously Maurizio? Whaaa?) gets his own? I mean seriously! Seriously...(not so) SERIOUSLY!

Anyways, as a joke I voted for Bob Rae cause I'm a likely NDP voter who'd be "likely to support the Liberal Party" because of his candidacy. Sorry if that skews the results.

2. Fry's lumped in "other"

because she hasn't announced, and there's been no announcement to expect an announcement. Bevilacqua made the cut because, according to reports, he's set to announce this week. Pity the poll can't go higher than ten.

3. Ken Dryden? Does he speak French?

Well that's unfortunate because he's a decent candidate, but if he's not fluent in French it's no good.

4. Gerard Kennedy

He's from the west, speaks French (although my French teacher aunt doesn't like the French he speaks), he's my cousin's next door neighbour and in speaking with him about non-political stuff, he's comfortable with people.

Ignatieff? Puhleez. We's end up invading Mexico to help GW.

Rae? Rae Days for the entire country. He carries too much luggage.

7. Well, he's my MPP and he hasn't embarrassed himself yet...

...so I'd have no problem with him running for the federal leadership. Of course, he'd have to resign as MPP, leaving the seat open for me to run provincially.

Now, if David Orchard gets off his ass and throws his hat into the ring, I'll probably go for him instead, since we go back a few years and I know what he stands for. But if not, Kennedy would certainly be a very good choice.

Why doesn't your French-teacher aunt not like his spoken French? It wouldn't have anything to do with his having been the provincial Minister of Education, would it? ;)

9. I voted for Kennedy too

For one thing, he's one of the few leadership contenders who's actually been a Liberal the whole time.
And he has an unblemished record of public service, more than most could say.

Heck, good for David Orchard if he wants to give it a shot, but once again, another Liberal-come-lately.

I admit I'm kind of superstitious though, and Liberal tradition dictates that the next leader should be a French-Canadian (historically the leadership has always alternated between anglos and francos), but Stephane Dion or Martin Cauchon are not particularly inspiring. A French-Canadian woman would be ideal. Or how about a black French-Canadian woman? Hey, how about an attractive black French-Canadian woman??... Oh rats, she's already the head of state! Paul Martin, you screwed us over again!

Vaughan MP warns party of shift to left

Dark horse contender Maurizio Bevilacqua formally announced last night he will take on the big names in the federal Liberal leadership race.

In a speech to supporters, the 45-year-old Vaughan MP lauded his humble roots, saying Liberals shouldn't buy into the idea that the party must shift to the left to regain power.

He has warned the party risks oblivion if it strays too far from the middle of the political road.
