It's "disgusting, disgraceful and shameful" that Prime Minister Stephen Harper won't support Newfoundland's fight against a consortium of oil companies that has stalled development of the Hebron offshore oilfield, Premier Danny Williams said yesterday.
Williams has lobbied Ottawa for five months for so-called fallow-field legislation that would require energy companies to develop offshore oilfields within a limited time frame, or risk losing the property to the Crown.
In a letter dated July 4, Williams asks Harper to introduce legislation and push for higher royalties from the consortium hoping to develop Hebron.
Williams received Harper's response yesterday, confirming that the federal government will not get involved in the dispute.
