Nova Scotian woman admits she strangled daughter to keep boyfriend

A woman from Bridgewater, N.S., has been handed a life sentence with no parole eligibility for 20 years for strangling her only child after her boyfriend gave her an ultimatum.

Penny Boudreau, 34, pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder in the death of 12-year-old Karissa Boudreau.

The girl's frozen body was found on the outskirts of Bridgewater on Feb. 9, 2008, about two weeks after her mother reported her missing.

2. There was a similar story about 30 years ago. It happened in a

Queens, NYC neighborhood. A woman had two small children a boy,and a girl between 3-8 or so. I believe she claimed the kids were kidnapped. It turned out she had killed them so she would be free to be with her boyfriend.

How very, very sad. When a woman sacrifices her children for a man, she will end up with neither.

5. I remember that case very well

Her husband was an airplane mechanic at Idlewild and worked nights while she worked as a cocktail waitress and partied. She did very little jail time and married her lover, Anthony Grace. I've often wondered what her life has been like. Last I heard they spent a lot of time on his boat. She must be in her 70s now.

10. Most people wouldn't dream of doing this. Read the other thread on DU news tonight where the father

had the militia cut off his own hand instead of his 4 year-old sons - in congo. They cut of both arms, but when the child screamed after the first, they nearly cut off the childs, but the father convinced them to take his second arm instead.

There's far more dads and moms like that in the world than ones who would kill their children. I don't doubt a bit what my own parents would have done. Both would have given their lives for me and my siblings.

12. More women out there willing to sacrifice everything for a man than we realize.....

not murder their children, which of course is a rare event (especially when the child is over 2 years of age) but too many women feel that if they don't have a man in their lives,they are nothing.

Look around, aren't there enough women catering to men at the expense of their children? I don't know why the criminologists are so surprised about what this callous, evil woman did. I'm not.

Also, there are lots of men don't want to "raise another man's children". What kind of "man" delivers any kind of ultimatum to a mother? Why get involved in the first place? This is a guy to kill for?

Some really fucked up so-called human beings on this planet. :(

13. Not to diminish ANYTHING that you are saying

because you are right. However, the story indicates that the mother and daughter were always fighting and the boyfriend figured that the girl's biological father (who wanted her) could take her back. He wanted the "easy" way out of placing the girl back with the father rather than help them work things out. But if they were fighting everyday, I can see looking for an escape route.

(and if you click on the video in the story, you'll see that the father was 10 times cuter than the boyfriend, imho)
