Schreiber wins hand in shaping ethics rules
OTTAWA — Karlheinz Schreiber will have a legal say not only on his business dealings with Brian Mulroney, but also on potential ethical reforms that could guide federal politicians in future.

Mr. Justice Jeffrey Oliphant, in a ruling made public Wednesday, granted Mr. Schreiber full standing to participate, through his lawyers, in wide-ranging policy deliberations to be held by a public inquiry.

Mr. Schreiber is “intimately involved in almost all, if not all, of the matters covered by the mandate of the commission,” wrote the judge.

Mr. Schreiber applied last month for similar status in the broader policy deliberations — unlike Mr. Mulroney who has shown no interest in participating in that part of the inquiry.

1. Not sure if this is good or bad for Mulroney
It could mean they are going easy on Schreiber, so he won't have to spill the beans on Mulroney. But it could mean he is going to sing, too.

2. The last time Schreiber appear, he had a visceral dislike for Mulroney...
I don't think that has changed. He already had legal standing for the fact-finding aspect of the Commission and his lawyers, I have no doubt, have made full use of that standing but it is interesting, imo, that he has now been given status in the area of shaping the ethics rules. He would certainly know where the loopholes have been as he made full use of them, lol.
