N.S. starts health help line

People in Nova Scotia worrying about a mysterious rash or a throbbing pain can now make a phone call before they take a trip to the emergency room.

Health Minister Maureen MacDonald says HealthLink 811 is a new 24-hour health information service.

People can now call the 811 non-emergency help line to speak with a health professional about their symptoms or ask for information.

MacDonald says she hopes the service will encourage people to play an active role in their own health, and the information collected will be used to improve services.

Twenty registered nurses from Nova Scotia will be working full time and 20 others will be part time, along with roughly 30 support staff.

The service will cost the province $6 million a year.

That's the entire article, so I don't feel too bad dumping the whole thing in here.

But yeah, this pleases me; from what I heard we were the only province not to have one of these in place. I'm not minding this whole livin' la vida NDP thing yet at all.
