Harper's new excuse. Now we're 'unstable'!
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper is offering a new wrinkle on his reasons for suspending Parliament -- the government can do more important work without MPs sitting in the Commons.

In an interview with Business News Network, the prime minister flatly rejected the notion that proroguing Parliament has left the country open to criticism it is not a stable democracy.

In fact, it is Parliament in a minority situation that is perceived by markets as unstable, said Harper.

5. "We had to shut down democracy to save it"
"Plus, the markets don't like democracy anyway."

6. He thinks we're stupid, doesn't he?
Seriously, I don't feel like he has any respect for the public.

I mean, he's basically saying minority government is unstable (by which he means bad for business), therefore he's going to pretend it's a dictatorship.

Also, to address his point that prorogation is routine in a parliamentary system, I'd like to point out that coalition governments are also routine in parliaments around the world, and if he is not up to the task of running a minority government, perhaps he should step aside and allow a coalition to take the reigns.

7. I think that's an article of faith with him.
We've had numerous minority govts over the years, and no one has ever suggested Canada was 'unstable' because of it. That's absurd.

Prorogation is certainly routine, but not for the reason of refusing to obey a lawful order of Parliament.

If anything is making this country 'unstable' it's the dictatorship Harper seems to be trying to impose.

8. In his desperation he seems to be revealing his dictatorial
nature. He has taken such pains to hide this and portray himself as a moderate. Hopefully this will help to wake up the Canadian public to the possibilities of what it would be like to give him a majority. We can only pray that he keeps letting these kind of remarks slip and cooks his own goose!!!
