A group said Monday it will soon file a bid for some of Canwest's newspapers, including the National Post, the Montreal Gazette and the Ottawa Citizen.
The group's members include former senator Jerry Grafstein, former Global TV executive and Montreal Star editor Raymond Heard and writer and broadcaster Beryl Wajsman.
The three said in a joint statement they have "received strong financial commitments."
"Each newspaper has a loyal and interested readership which the consortium is confident can be broadened and deepened," they said.

Part of me would just like to see the thing die, but anything would be an improvement over the current situation. This group hearkens to the Trudeau Liberal era, to a considerable extent.
