"Thirty years ago today, Terry Fox began his inspiring "Marathon of Hope", with the dream of running across the country and raising what was then a staggering $1 million for cancer research.

Three decades later, more than $500 million has been raised in his name since his story of courage and determination became the stuff of Canadian legend."

He had the spirit to never quit and he selflessly sacrificed his last moments on earth for such an important cause. Just check out how International his run is; the guy made an unbelievable contribution to society at a time when he could have just rolled over. We in Canada were lucky to have him...and we need many more with his courage in this country.

I would have loved to see his mom bring in the torch with him running on the jumbotron.
