EDMONTON — The Edmonton Folk Festival is singing the blues again after the federal government denied the organization any funds from its Marquee Tourism Events program.
The Edmonton festival — the largest of its kind in Canada — had asked for $500,000, but finished out of the money for a second year in a row.
Edmonton Northlands, on the other hand, will get $821,000 for the Rexall Edmonton Indy — twice the amount it got last year. That event lost a total of $9.2 million in 2008 and 2009.
The Edmonton Eskimos scored a touchdown, too, and will be on the receiving end of $426,000 — three times as much as last year — as host of the 2010 Grey Cup game and festival.
