Helena Guergis didn’t make new friends or win back old ones after she emerged from her self-imposed silence in a bid to kick start her political career.
The opposition parties said Tuesday that they still want more details on allegations that her husband, Rahim Jaffer, engaged in unregistered lobbying activities after he lost his seat in the 2008 federal election.
And the Conservative Party ratcheted up its attacks against the version of events laid out Monday night by Ms. Guergis, who resigned as minister of state for the status of women and was removed from the Conservative caucus last month.
“Ms. Guergis wasn’t telling the truth about not knowing the allegations
,” a Conservative memo said. “She was told the specific allegations by the party lawyer.”
