2. The Left utterly destroyed themselves. GG.
We warned them that they had to unite somehow for years, but nope. Now we get 4 years of unleashed Harpy. Good grief.

7. The whole "unity" thing was just code for "everybody has to vote for the Liberals, no matter what"
The Liberals could have done many things to prevent this

1)In discussing "strategic voting", they could have treated the NDP as equals and been willing to not actively campaign in the areas where the NDP were and will always be stronger(most of B.C., Much of the Praries, Northern Ontario, and, by the middle of this campaign, Quebec);

2)In exchange for strategic votes for Liberals, they could have PROMISED that proportional representation would be approved as soon as a Liberal government took power;

3)The Liberals could have adopted a platform that would actually engage NDP voters, rather than sticking with the 1990's austerity model.

Instead, they simply made demands. Now, the Liberals need to admit they were wrong to make those demands.

3. CBC Projects

A Conservative majority.

I will save my crystal ball projection until later. Suffice it to say that I don't see a LaFontaine and Baldwin anywhere.
Harper wins majority, CBC projects

4. Not a surprise
I hate to say I to you so but...at least to me, right from the beginning of this election it appeared to be a slam dunk for the Conservatives.

The Liberals destroyed themselves with their history of snobbish assumptions year after year that they could parade any leader out and they would simply run the country every election. Times they are a changin'. With the big split of the left, it was evident that the Conservatives were going to gain big. Only 1 in 5 Canadians voted for the Libs and many who would normally vote for the Liberals decided it was safer to vote for the Conservatives to avoid an NDP government.

A majority means massive changes in Canada as Harper promised. First on the block is probably the CBC. If they can balance the budget I will be happy, starting with an approach that was taken by the Conservative government in England, the fat in the federal government needs to be slashed. A bigger focus on human rights in this country is also needed. If Harper can address these, I will be content.

I am happy for Layton. I truly believe he cares about Canada, probably more than any of these leaders, to him politics is the dirty part of trying to lead, not something he overly enjoys. He seems the most honest and I am glad he was rewarded for his years of hard work and commitment to Canada. Regardless of my personal economic differences of opinion (though much more narrow then they have been in the past) with the NDP, I have never doubted his character, not something I could ever say about any other leader in my time.

As for the Liberals, they have grossly overestimated the effectiveness of their last two leaders. Both Dion and Iggy to me seemed boorish and out of touch with regular Canadians.

Who will be next to lead the Libs?

5. Times They Are A Changing
Are from a different time!

Your beliefs don't count unless you can do something about them.

We now face a Conservative majority that will change Canada and eventually North America!

The NDP will not be able to do a dam thing for four years.

8. Ignatieff could never have won this election. The voters never supported him.
You didn't have to choose a leader who enabled torture and kept Canada in the Afghan war.
