Conservatives set to rush crime bill back to Commons
OTTAWA—Critics call it the “omnimess” bill.
The Conservative government’s massive nine-in-one “omnibus” crime reform package of legislation heads back to the Commons for a final vote after a rushed committee study of it concludes Wednesday.
The most damning analysis came from Quebec Justice Minister Jean-Marc Fournier who had earlier slammed the Conservatives “cookie-cutter” approach to dealing with young offenders.
On Tuesday, a frustrated Fournier left Ottawa after failing a second time to persuade the federal justice minister to change tack.
