The Ketchup Song

Stompin' Tom Connors

There was a guy from PEI they used to call Potato
He met this young Leamington Ontario Tomato
But he had eyes for other girls & she was a little mushy
So they said well let's get wed there's no sense bein fussy

Chorus:
Baked sized french fries-how they love Tomatoes
So dress em up with Heinz Ketchup
Ketchup loves Potatoes
Ketchup loves Potatoes

Well he went down to Windsor town to buy a ring on Monday
Saturday they said OK we'll cut the cake on Sunday
But Sunday came and what a shame - They had no one to fetch it
Without a cake they just sat and ate - Potato chips and ketchup

Bake sized french fries how they love Tomatoes
So dress em up with Heinz Ketchup -
Ketchup loves Potatoes
Ketchup loves Potatoes

And so this guy from PEI they used to call Potato
Got two boys and a little girl-Two spuds & one Tomato
They romp and run around Leamington and boy when they get hungry
The bottle drips all over the chips way down in the ketchup country.
Ketchup loves Potatoes
Ketchup loves Potatoes

But he had eyes for other girls and she was a little mushy
And so they said well let's get wed there's no sense being buzzy

Cho... Baked size french fries how they loved tomatos

So dress them up with Heinz ketchup
Ketchup loves potatos
Ketchup loves potatos

So he went down to Windsor town to buy a ring on Monday
Saturday they said o.k. we'll cut the cake on Sunday
But Sunday came & what a shame they had no one to fetch it
Without a cake they just sat & ate potato chips & ketchup

And so this guy from P.E.I. they used to call potato
He's got to boys & a little girl
Two spuds & one tomato
They romp & run around Leemington
And boy when they get hungry
The bottle drips all over the chips
Way down in ketchup country

1. Stompin' Tom .. hehe
Either love him or leave him! My son was a "Tom" fanatic for years (as a child). He knew every song ever done. I saw ST in concert once and was sadly disappointed. His recordings are much more entertaining than he is in person.

Stompin' Tom always said he'd never take his talent "State Side" like so many other entertainers have. He is a Canadian through and through.

In 1997 Tom was surprised to be a candidate in receiving the Order of Canada. Then shocked to find out he was accepted.

2. Stompin' Tom is a mighty curious phenomenon.
I dare say we'd have even more trouble explaining him to our American cousins than we did the Tragically Hip. This particular STC song will baffle them even more, as they've never experienced the marvel of ketchup chips.

I think if we ever get invaded by Red Staters looking for oil or fresh water, we just send loudspeaker trucks playing Stompin' Tom out into the streets and their heads will explode like in Mars Attacks.
