Anyone else find it ironic, re Homolka:

She's seeking a court-ordered injunction on press coverage of her post-release life.

"Why ironic", you ask?

Because she fears for her privacy and safety, and doesn't want to be stalked and vulnerable.

You know, like her victims were.

1. Well, as much as we hate it

she DOES have the right to privacy. She didn't give her victims a chance, but she did serve time (though most would argue not enough) and now that she has her freedom, she does have the right to saftey and security, even if she doesn't deserve it.

2. She is asking for unbelievable restrictions and painting herself

as a victim yet again, disgusting, imo. The press has the right to cover her just as they do anyone else who is in the public eye, no more, no less.

I hope she is never left in peace, she has 'earned' her notoriety, let her get her just desserts in terms of being outed by the media. I don't want her in my neighbourhood and would want to know if that were to happen.

I hope all the post-release press attention can make up for the bad deal the Crown made with her. It's our only hope for true justice to be served in this case.

Do you think someone will really try to kill her? Being apathetic Canadians and all that.

4. Yes, having lived in St. Catharines for a time...

...I do know of certain elements who could pose a credible threat to Homolka.

I like the judge's ruling today; that she has to live with the consequences of her actions, and that the authorities are under no obligation to offer her special protection.

It almost restores my faith in our legal system. Almost.

She, like all other citizens, has the right to go to the police with any specific information re any threats to her safety, and they have the obligation to protect her at that point. Until then, she gets the same average protection as anyone else.

6. I went to high school in St. Catharines

so I also feel very close to home on this topic.


I remember stopping in front of the Bernardo home when the police trailers had surrounded it, continuing their investigation. The drapes were all closed, but you could still see in through various parts of the windows, even from the road. It was a chilly feeling that left you sick to your stomach. I'll never forget it.

8. A guy I knew...

...his family's backyard connected to Bernardo/Homolka's backyard. The police back-hoed their yard looking for...who knows...at the onset of the investigation. My friend's little sister used to let Bernardo walk their dog. Creepy.

She's a threat. To acquiesce would mean that we could never know what she's up to.

7. True that...

Homolka has all the earmarks of a pathological narcissist and strikes me as a danger to re-offend, which given her record, could be horrendous. I'd want to know if she was planning to come anywhere near me... After what she's done, she's forfeited her right to anything but continuing to breathe and think her dark, crazed thoughts. The rest of us need to be protected from any of those thoughts being translated into actions.
