Poll question: If the E.U. fails, can Britain join Canadian Confederation as a province
Am I the only Brit who wants Britain to be a part of Canada? Well, maybe. :)

Tabarnac les putains d'anglais. They still feel they are colonized by the Queen of England.

18. Québec doesen't give a shit who is in the other provinces
We find the fact that we still have a queen quite ridiculous but other than that if you let Québec do things it's own way, it won't be a problem.

4. As a Canadian, I voted "yeah, sure".

It's a slam-dunk for taking back the Labour Party, and we could re-annex/politically re-align all those lovely islands in the Caribean in the process (they'd all be on board in heartbeat, 'cept for the US Virgins...)

Hell, the Queens face is already on our money, hanging in our courtrooms, and plastered all over my mum's commemorative Jubilee china...we're half-way there already (or BACK, depending on how one views it).

But you're right...there's my pesky French compatriots to deal with. (However, the Caribean islands would sweeten the deal; I hear they're deseperately looking for "sunbird" alternatives to Florida...for some mysterious reason, it's no fun being French AND Canadian as a tourist in Jeb's state anymore.)

5. Alrighty
:)

Yes, Britain's caribbean colonies are all part of the deal.

Keeping the monarchy might not be necessary, we could use the Irish presidency system (an elected, ceremonial Head of State) - kind of what your Governor-General does now.

7. Good move putting this in the "Country: Canada" section.
It's still very early here (0530 Pacific), people are still waking up, and threads tend to stick around longer in the Country section. There's bound to be a lot of interesting responses, however jokingly, to your poll.

Seriously: when people (not just in Canada) start considering China a more desirable trading partner and overall (potential) friendly ally, you just know something's in the air...

8. Yes, there's a lot of uncertainty in the air
I am looking forward to interesting responses, jokingly or otherwise.

Seriously, I would love Britain to join Canada although selling the idea to my fellow Brits (and Canadians) might take some time :) We'll try to learn how to play ice hockey, but I can't promise anything.

Let's say this idea gets some "legs". It goes to referendum in Canada and the UK. Then, prior to vote, have every eligible voter and/or adult in both countries required BY LAW TO LOG ON TO FREE REPUBLIC FOR A REQUISITE THIRTY MINUTES. (Make it a required FULL HOUR for Quebec.)

There you go. Bob's yer uncle. The entire North Atlantic has just been politically and economically re-aligned!!!

this union does NOT include Blair, he must be deported to the Hague first, lol.

12. RE: The union "does NOT include Blair"...
In my previous post, I mentioned that this "union" would allow the UK to "take back" their Labour Party. Obviously, Blair would be out of the picture. If, through some legal loopholes and a bit of luck, he survived the Hague, he'd then be forced to seek exile in some hellish, backwards right-wing extremist dictatorship where few friends remain. TEXAS?

the Hague. I mean Iraq OUTSIDE of the green zone, lol.

Maybe he'll get his citizenship after 5 years and run for Governor in the Lone Star State.

16. oh, well, next thing you know
... all the Prime Ministers would be coming from that province (of course from its right wing), and it would hold the controlling bloc in Parliament one way or another, and be demanding that all those North Sea oil revenues stay on that side of the ocean and telling the rest of us to freeze in that dry cold of ours ... but whatever was done, that province would nonetheless be wanting to separate / become independent / become sovereign / become sovereign but keep all the stuff we bought it and also its Canadian passports ...

Just what we need. ;)

20. Meh. If they let us in we'd only end up screwing things up for everyone.
To paraphrase the Blairite slogan, "Canada is working- don't let Britain ruin it".

Or, I suppose, to fit the current model: Oldfoundland & Ulster.

But oooh, I say take back Conrad Black. And watch him go mad.
