Canadian Muslim leaders decry violence
Canadian Muslim leaders decry violence

CBC News

Canadian Islamic leaders have issued a strong condemnation of Thursday's explosions in London, saying they are "united" in their efforts to confront religious extremism.

In an unprecedented move, 120 imams from across the country gathered in Toronto and released a statement afterwards.

"Terrorism has been increasing and it is our religious duty to confront this evil," Ahmad Kutty, a Toronto imam, told reporters.

"We must do so unitedly – as imams and religious leaders," he said.

"We must send out this one voice across to all Muslims that there is no justification whatsoever for targeting innocent people."

2. That is nice but I wonder
Ever since 911, muslim leaders all around the worl have had the chance to express their indignation. I have muslim friends who say extremists and terrorists are not good muslims. Yet I wonder, why has no one issued a fatwa on Bin Laden or Zarqaoui or something?

3. Do we KNOW that Bin Laden was behind it?
For a couple of years after the WTC went down, no one claimed responsibility.

I thought I had seen something since where OBL implied he was behind it, but I recall thinking it odd that it took him so damn long.

If anyone knows anything further, let me know.

4. He praised it

said he rejoiced over it, talked about watching it on TV, but never once actually claimed responsibility for it.

At least not on the tapes that have been verified as genuine. ;-)

6. Wether he was behind it or not is not really relevant
The fact of the matter is, there has been a lot of muslim terrorism, and it's taking the moderate leaders time to respond to it.

Now do realize that I am aware that there is other terrorism but in the instance for, for example, the Oklahoma City bombing or most of the IRA hits, there are always people who jump up to condemn those.

I'm happy the muslim leaders in Canada are finally doing that, but it took them long enough.
