KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Canadian soldiers returned Sunday to the Afghanistan farm where four of their comrades were killed in a friendly fire tragedy three years ago and for some -- veterans of that earlier time -- it was an emotional moment they found difficult to talk about.
"It's humbling to be back here,'' said Sgt. Chuck Cote, struggling to find just the right words to describe the moment. "It's almost like going back to the scene of the crime.''

The emotional return visit came as about a dozen Canadians were in the area designating roads, a term used for inspecting pathways to assess the risk to other soldiers who will drive the same roads in future.

"I mean they were our friends. It's still in the back of the mind. I believe it's always in the back of pretty much everybody's mind at all times.''
