OTTAWA (CP) - Never mind her oath of office, the royal seal, the various symbolic collars, the pan-Canadian entertainment nor even Michaelle Jean's passionate address.
Let the record show that Canada's 27th Governor General truly arrived when she kicked up her heels and hands to a gospel choir in the Senate foyer following her investiture Tuesday.
From the tears rolling down Jean's cheeks as she listened to the opening musical number in the Commons rotunda - a haunting ballad about environmental destruction - to her easy laughter as she reviewed an honour guard outside two hours later, Jean showed she'll be wearing her heart on her sleeve.
With Desgroseillers' soaring vocals rattling the portraits of dead politicians on the limestone walls, Jean was soon clapping her hands above her head - leaving the poor, grinning prime minister gamely slapping an unsteady beat at her side.
