Well, got my copy of the new-format Guardian...

... a bit of a culture shock but first impresssions broadly favourite.

Nice, clean crisp look to it (more NY Times than Le Monde, IMHO), especially the "magazine quality" colour photography - less "muddy" than the Indy's.

Good extended Op-Ed pages. Easy to handle and read ...

Yes, I'll buy it. :toast:

1. I'll be buying mine in half an hour - what's the paper quality like?
Heavy?

4. About the same.
As I said, cf Le Monde, NY Times.

8. Well, I think it's pretty good, with a few reservations.
The front page is a bit of a jumble. I dislike the large flannel panel above the masthead. I'm not a big fan of the masthead itself, but the blue is smart. It might just be that the old one was so very good. I wonder if they will vary the colour.

The larger news stories and features inside look pretty good, the smaller ones look a bit lost.

The comment & analysis pages and the new media supplement are excellent.

G2 has a very colour-supplement feel; that's not necessarily bad as long as they keep the fluff quotient down.

"If ..." made me grin like a loon.

2. Not bad!
Just hope they keep their traditional reporting and stance!

3. Well, I was wrong
Nice job.
Great typeface, quality colour, nice clean layout and doesn't look/feel tabloid at all.

5. They dropped the (labour) red. Is that a political statement?

And Judi Dench on the front page. Nice decision.

6. A petty objection, but why the lower case title?
I notice they're still using an upper case 'G' on the web page titles. I'm not a fan of using lower case when all convention dictates upper case.

7. I'm with you on that one. Typographic fashion is swinging against lower
case and it might look dated rather quickly.
