Pope appoints new Bishop of Paisley

The Pope has appointed a new Scottish bishop, it has been announced.

Father Philip Tartaglia said he was "deeply honoured" to have been awarded the post by Pope Benedict XVI.


The new Bishop of Paisley succeeds John Mone who retired in October 2004 after 16 years in the role.

Father Philip, 54, has been working in Rome for the past year but said he is looking forward to returning to Scotland and to "building up the life of the Church" in his new diocese.
