poor Kate Moss
They're after her like a pack of dogs... for doing five lines of coke.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1792363,00.html

Do you think she has the right to privacy? The hate and judgement
the news-trash public is dumping on her is wrong and will never stop.
They hate her for being glamourous, cool and rich... she should just
tell them that it felt great, and that she loves her boyfriend.

2. what is ridiculous is the hypocrisy
many of the customers of H&M do cocaine. Many of the writers use cocaine. A lot of the execs use cocaine. A lot of folks in rich suburbs do cocaine.

Where do these people get off?

6. I agree. I hate this whole "think of the children" crap....
Kids are so cocooned today they're growing up to be total wimps because they're not being taught to think for themselves.

High school kids can't even cross a street without a crossing guard anymore and that simply teaches them to cross the street without looking because they think all cars will stop for them.

They think that pot is bad and Pfizer is good. That obeying rules is good, but they aren't taught to think about the rules they're following and whose rules they are.

Argh, on a tangential rant again.... I'll stop. Until goaded again.... :-)

16. Well phrased
I rather see her being martyred for all the drugs users in britain, all
the 10 million of us. Maybe all drugs users should boycott H*M.
Yet i'd wager on Kate to get a knighthood before the whole thing is out.
She should just point out that drugs use is normal in civil society, and
that the pompous media blowhards are nothing more than a load of
hipocrates.

But you get to the deeper matter, the muscle of liberty has gone
weak for the apperance of "goodness" and following the rules. The
wisdom of free will and making choices is been squandered for some
silly war-on-human-nature nightmare.

7. I nominate this thread title for Irony of the Day
because I don't think she's been 'poor' since she became an adult.

She got millions from the advertising industry form being the perfect icon for them - now she's not perfect for them. She may not get further millions. She couldn't go to a friend's show. Wow, what a cruel life, eh?

No, I'll feel sorry for her if she actually goes to jail, or social services interfere in her bringing up her child. I couldn't give a toss what one part of the PR industry says about another.

It is hard to know who are the biggest bunch of hypocrites in this situation. The fake shock and horror expressed by the press over Moss's drug use is just laughable. There was a ridiculous piece in the Daily Mail today where they visited a number of celebrity venues and tested their toilets for traces of cocaine. Needless, to say evidence of the drug were found at every location. Of course, what they failed to mention is that a similar exercise carried out in most of the offices of the leading national newspapers would have turned up identical results. By the same token the view common among celebrities that taking illegal Class A drugs is little more than a lifestyle choice, which they are entitled to keep private, is also a joke. No such privilege seems to be applied to people engaged in criminal activities in other fields. Indeed, poorer drug users do not have the luxury of Moss's millions to pay for their habits so sooner or later they nearly all end up doing serious time in prison. Although the authorities are huffing and puffing about prosecuting Moss, you can be sure that her lawyers will ensure that the worse she experiences is a fine and some time in rehabilitation.

13. When public commentators start about her relationship...
is where i feel sympathy for her. People have all but openly cursed
her and her boyfriend, on radio 1, and on other media. She is
wealthy of money and poor of privacy. Surely she's used to the
heat of media exposure, just they've really crossed the line in to
her private life, and who knows, in 10 years she may be a very different
person, but stereotyped by this outrageous hate media.

What i really feel sad about, is that she's one of the classiest people
in britain, IMO, and that they seem to feed on destroying the best of
the heard. Perhaps i've always had a crush on kate moss. Her gaunt
cocaine looking eyes seems like they are compassionate ones, and maybe
being trashed by this media blitz, with people spitting to destroy her
career out of spite, it surely hurts like a punch in the gut.

14. It'll be over in a few days
Celebrities have been caught using cocaine before. For a week or two, the tabloids use it to sell more copies; then they drop it for something else. The celebrities then get on with their life. They may lose some earning power, but, as I said, as someone who's done so well out of image, I can't find Moss an object of pity.

I don't know, is she really classy? Her boyfriend has an addiction problem, it seems, but she uses drugs with him?

20. I agree - and classy? Hmmm...
One of the articles I read - bitchy though it is - reported that she was born and raised in an "unfashionable" suburb of London.

And as far as compassion in her eyes? I see nothing of the sort - just a sad, hollow look of another model chewed up and spit out by the fashion industry. It's a very ugly business, but it was good to her while it lasted so I can't really feel sorry for her.

8. If you think all's she's done is five lines, you're wrong
She's a regular user.

A big problem is that thousands of teens take their cues on what's cool from people like Moss. There's a message they tune in loud and clear when coke use is accepted as part of the glamorous model lifestyle.

It's not a good message. I know. I lost a friend to coke. As in dead. I'm glad H&M thinks a counter-message is a good thing. Coke use as a mass phenomenon depends on perceptions of whether cocaine is cool, just as with tobacco.

One more thing. Coke is supplied by some of the most murderous, evil people on Earth. I have a real problem with the daily flow of millions of dollars into the hands of people who think killing and thug-regulated corruption are normal business practices.

My opinions, nothing more, nothing less.

Peace.

9. well to be a perfect cynic about all of this
It's a GREAT opportunity to make more money for her. She's going to knuckle down, "go to rehab", disappear for a year, do a tearful tell all mini bio, get some great photo ops speaking out against drugs as a reformed user, pick up some new contracts, and make even more money, and probably be doing coke all along.

I could care less about how people choose to kill themselves. Drug use is just slow suicide, and you can't save everyone from killing themselves once you've done everything that YOU are supposed to do for your friends/family.

I DO agree that supporting that trade is like giving money to the republican party, as in "daily flow of millions of dollars into the hands of people who think killing and thug-related corruption are normal business practices".

11. Yes, she does have a right to privacy
and so does her boyfriend, who is famous for being an addict as he destroyed the band he was in. But he's famous for being an addict and being her boyfriend. It even got him on Live 8. Those who live by the sword...

18. Well I for one loathe cocaine
and I loathe being in the company of people who use the stuff. That said, the hypocrisy on show is quite something. We all know how widespread coke use is so she's hardly an isolated example. I don't know about you lot but I'm sick and tired of all the Kate Moss stories around at the moment.

19. It's shameful
I'm upset to hear, that the media have declared private citizens open
game. I don't want to hear about kate moss either. She did something
of her own free will in her life, so what, big deal. This is really
a witch hunt, updated a coupla centuries.

I don't care for cocaine myself, never did. I tried it as a college
student, so i look at it, that if the police were standing there right
then and hitting me up for "trying it", would the action be appropriate
to the reality? I frankly learned a great deal from that brush with
cocaine. I learned that i really didn't like it, and that it has no
attraction for me whatsoever. But that was my free decision, not based
on some media hype, but after snorting coke through a rolled 20 dollar
bill, i would rather smoke a joint.

But then, were kate moss to smoke a big fat one on the camera, would
they not do the same thing to her, so in that case, they are crucifying
her for doing what i do, exercising my personal freedom and right to
choose in life... and that a bunch of lowlife trailer trash media assholes
are in her face, makes me so damn happy i avoid their drivelling yellow
journalistic slime; parrot droppings the lot of it.

21. Robbie Williams today:
I took cocaine with the journalists slating Kate Moss

Robbie Williams launched an attack on the British media yesterday, accusing them of hypocrisy and "devouring" the model Kate Moss over her alleged drug-taking activities.

Williams, who himself has battled problems with alcohol and drugs, claimed that he had taken cocaine with some media figures who were now saying that Moss should not take drugs. He said that the media should put their knives away and "get off her fucking back".

Speaking at a press conference in Berlin ahead of his sold-out performance in the city tomorrow, he said Moss was an "absolute icon" who had done nothing wrong and was entitled to a private life.

(...)

Williams, 31, who has been treated in this country and the United States, said: "I think the media have got a lot to answer for. We're talking about a woman who has never harmed anyone or hurt anyone and who has never pretended to be anyone she isn't. Some people in various media groups who I have personally taken cocaine with are now talking about her and saying she shouldn't do it.

"I have done cocaine with these people and, the way they have so much power over people's lives, it wouldn't have surprised me if she had tried to commit suicide the week that everything hit the papers."
