Tory rule change bid is defeated
The attempt to change the rules on who chooses the next Conservative leader has been defeated in a vote of MPs and senior party activists.

A plan to give the choice to MPs rather than Tory members failed to win the two-thirds majority needed for change.

It means the leadership contest will be held under the current rules, with MPs choosing two candidates to go to a vote of all Conservative members.

That could be prolong the contest until Christmas or beyond.

Say hello to David Davis, the next Tory leader. I don't think he can turn the British electorate far enough right to get the Tories under him elected. But the elederly Tory party members will love him, until he loses the election.

3. Heavens, it's like Wembley '82 all over again!
So, we're now eight years into a Labour government and they still haven't got their act together. By this stage under Thatcher, Kinnock had purged Militant, re-written the manifesto and seen off the SDP. Sure, there was another decade of opposition, but Labour was on its way. The Tories haven't even got that far.
