Does your Finance Minister wear new shoes to deliver a budget
or is that just a Canadian Parliamentary tradition?

1. I don't think so, but that Canadian Parliamentary tradition sounds
interesting.

The main traditions for the UK Chancellor are to promise unrealistic growth and tax revenue forecasts. It's been at least a British tradition for 45 years. :bounce:

2. Ours has been pretty unrealistic as well
They've been low-balling for years. Our provincial surplus was supposed to be 1 Billion, then 2 Billion and now it looks to be about 2.7 Billion.

3. I heard BC was having problems in recent years
does the province seem to be heading out of difficulty now?

5. Our previous government ran us into the ground,
so much so, that we went from being a 'Have' province to a 'Have Not' province. This lead us to us getting larger transfer payments from the federal government. Our current government has been very tight with the purse-strings. We should be a 'Have' province again, soon.

7. I'm sorry---Brits and canadians have no reason to complain
Bush and his GOP cronies are running up 400 Billion dollar a year defecits
It is astonishing that the GOP tries to present itself as fiscally responsible

4. No, but there was an obsession with Ken Clarke's Hush Puppies
for reasons I never understood.

The traditions are:
a walk in the park with wife
holding up the battered red budget case for the cameras
their favourite drink in the Commons for them to sip while speaking. This tended to be whisky, but for slightly puritanical Brown has mineral water, I think.

6. I seem to recollect a report of Tony Barber, when Tory chancellor ......
... chain-smoking as he delivered the budget. Smokescreen?
