Dead boys 'were stabbed in chest'
Source: BBC

Two young boys found dead at their home in north Manchester both died of single stab wounds to their chests.

Romario Mullings-Sewell, aged two, and his three-month-old brother, Delayno, were found dead in Cheetham Hill on Wednesday evening.

Post-mortem examinations confirmed that both were killed by stab wounds they suffered, police said on Saturday.

Their 21-year-old mother, Jael Mullings, has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Separate investigations are under way into why the family was no longer assigned a social worker and the police response to initial 999 calls about concerns for their welfare.

1. That's very recent
and the mother has already been sectioned as a nutjob.

This one is just as bad : Councillors meet over Baby P case - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7732310.stm

Words defy as to how anyone can be so inhumane toward defenceless small children. Very distressing.

2. "sectioned as a nutjob"
 What does that mean?

4. It sounds to me as if they had a prior diagnosis of mental illness. Thus
she is placed in custody rather than jailed. I am not sure of that though.

6. It means
she has been detained under the UK's mental health act. Such detention is referred to as sectioning over here and nutjob is probably self explanatory. As someone else has pointed out the chances are there has been a history of this and the issue will become why anything wasn't done earlier to protect the children and equally so the mother.

7. Probably shouldn't have been in LBN
but it is a family interest item all the same and as far as I'm aware 20% - 25% on DU are not USA.

8. Edward - Just in case no one else posts this - I think it is very, very important
to post stories about people all around the world at Democratic Underground. We are desperately in need - here in the states - of opening up our horizons. Our corporate news contains virtually no information about anything happening outside our nation unless it is happening in someplace where we have military stationed now or will have some stationed there soon.

My heart breaks to hear of these stories -- I appreciate the serious coverage of the Baby P story at the BBC site.

9. I had a friend over from NC
a month ago and he was surprised at the news info available outside of the USA on world topics - not like this. I glad that was of interest to you although it is an extremely sad case and emotions are understandably running high here. It will constnatly be updated on the BBC News site because they have yet to be sentenced and also the issues of neglect by the local authority.

ps. - It's Richard. :hi:

10. I imagine that I'll hear about it tomorrow morning on the BBC radio news -
I set my alarm earlier than I need to get up in order to get to listen to at least a little bit of BBC news. It is on only from 5-6 a.m. in the morning -- after that it is all corporate U.S. media all day.

Take care, Richard! :hi:
