Can you go in the ocean without a wetsuit in the UK? Does it ever get warm enough for that? nt

1. No, swimming in the sea was completely unheard of |
|
before the invention in the 20th century of neoprene. Any pictures you may see of people swimming at the seaside are obvious fakes. The development of seaside resorts in the 19th century was purely because people liked the sound of waves, rather than a crazy desire to immerse themselves.

3. That would be unusual in summer |
|
It's true that it's very rare for anyone to go swimming outdoors in winter; but people still walk on beaches.

4. Maybe the filmmakers only film on beaches in the winter, so it won't be so crowded. nt |

8. I have a healthy respect for the sea, having lived most of life near it. |

I prefer to observe it from the sidelines or over the side of something which the insurance companies have decided is more likely to float than I am.
