Texting peer freed after appeal
A Labour peer who was jailed for 12 weeks for sending and receiving text messages while driving on the M1 has been released by the Court of Appeal.

Lord Ahmed, 51, was involved in a fatal crash minutes after sending the messages on Christmas Day 2007.

He hit a stationary car in the outside lane of the M1, killing Martyn Gombar, 28, from Leigh, Greater Manchester.

Lord Ahmed has served 16 days of his sentence. Road safety charity Brake said it was "appalled" by the decision.

That is absolutely disgusting. I am appalled.

2. That is just shit.
"Labour peer" = "shithouse who paid Blair the going rate".

*He* drove into a *stationary* car while texting a friend and killed someone.

16 days.

This is the point where I support vigilante killings.

5. I was disgusted by the original sentence
I'm speechless that even that paltry 12 weeks was considered too much. Ok, the sentence has been "suspended", but we all know what that really means in this case. What is this "community work" which he is somehow uniquely qualified to perform, and which somehow would be prevented for all time if he remained banged up for three months?

Lady Justice Hallett said there was "little or nothing" Lord Ahmed could have done to avoid the collision.

Apart, of course, from paying fucking attention.

6. Wonder how many others will get away with that claim?

> could have done to avoid the collision.

That is so much bullshit.
The victim's vehicle was stationary.
Ahmed's vehicle was moving under his control.

7. BBC Re-education programme.
The BBC continue their campaign to convince us that black is white.

A nice little 'puff'' from the Department of Positive Spin and Re-Education of us morons......otherwise known as Room 101.

A peer who was jailed for sending text messages while driving on a motorway has said he wants to work as a road safety campaigner.

But hark! What have we here? The facts are changing before our very eyes!
No longer did the judge say " The last message was sent two minutes and 1.86 miles" before the accident.

The BBC now says it was "about 10 minutes after he had sent and received the text messages".

So much for factual unbiased reporting.

8. Looks like they've changed it back
Lord Ahmed's Jaguar hit a stationary car in the outside lane of the motorway two minutes after he had sent the last of the messages.
