Nicholas Soames in battle with BNP for using Churchill to promote party

I have to admit that the BNP using Churchill on it's posters is about as dishonest as it is possible for a political party to get.

Mr Soames said he was taking "all possible steps" to prevent the far-right wing party using the wartime prime minister's image on a leaflet entitled "This Britain is Yours!".

The 61-year-old said he was "disgusted" by the BNP's use of a photograph of his grandfather to push its so-called Battle For Britain election campaign.

However, the BNP has refused to remove the picture, claiming that Churchill had "strong views on immigration" and would have voted for them were he still alive.

The leaflet, handed out to people across Britain, states: "Millions of our ancestors gave their lives to ensure you have the freedom to enjoy."

FFS, he had the opportunity at the time of joining hands with Oswald Moseley if he'd wanted!

Well that's the thing. he had the opportunity, but as it happened the BNP's forerunners and Churchill had diametrically opposed views on appeasement and the Nazi threat and as such it never came to pass.

And so thing went on, Churchill saved Britain from the Nazi threat, and Oswald Moseley and his supporters became discredited as traitors.

And so, in order to address the whole problem of the BNP being Hitler supporting traitors (which is still a major reason why many RWer's refuse to support them) the BNP have decided just make shit up in the hope that their target audience are completely ignorant of British history.

3. Churchill was an imperialist but he was a liberal conservative

and I seriously doubt he'd agree with the BNP on race and immigration. After all wasn't Churchill for a 'united states of Europe' at some point?

Never mind the fact that Griffin et al would have been Britain's own Vichyites in World War Two if they'd been around then.
