Video reveals G20 police assault on man who died
So it turns out that there was an attack by a policeman on Ian Tomlinson who died shortly after the assault.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/apr/07/video-g20-police-assault

The film reveals that as he walks, with his hands in his pockets, he does not speak to the police or offer any resistance.

snip...

A Metropolitan police officer appears to strike him with a baton, hitting him from behind on his upper thigh.

Moments later, the same policeman rushes forward and, using both hands, pushes Tomlinson in the back and sends him flying to the ground, where he remonstrates with police who stand back, leaving bystanders to help him to his feet.

Wonder how the met will wriggle out of this one.

1. I was once in
a pub in Manchester after a FA cup semi final when riot police stormed it and beat crap out of everyone in there.

It went to court and the judge in his summing up admitted there had been unprovoked assaults and GBH, however the not one officer involved was charged. Why? because they were all wearing ski masks and had their numbers covered.

If you look at the video again the officer who kills him is wearing a balaclava. They will close ranks and no-one will be identified. And if they do they will have lost any shred of moral authority they ever had.

2. The whole approach to the political policing
in this country i hope now will be looked at.

The police have been building a database of politcal activists and used the kettle to do the same on april 1st.
They rang organisers to threaten them it would be very violent
They stormed the peaceful climate camp with riot police and dogs.
They imprisoned thousands of innocent protestors in the street
They beat innocent people with batons (killing one)

Taking all this into account we can only conclude that the MET are now a political police force.

They are deliberately and systematically trying to dissuade people through intimidation and violence from being politically active. Many people have said they will never attend another demonstration again after april 1st and i think that's the whole point of the police tactics.

We are at a very dangerous juncture but i feel that the damage to democratic activity by citizens may already have been done.
