Shots Of The Century - The Press Association Archive
" A scorching goal – CLICKETY-CLICK – a prime ministerial visit – CLICKETY-CLICK – freak weather conditions in Blackpool (you've guessed it) CLICKETY-CLICK. It takes only a split second to record a historical event; but appreciation of the act can last decades.

And through Press Association Images' print store (printstore.pressassociation. com), the public can now access the photography agency's extensive library of British newspaper shots from the past 100 years – and turn them into anything from framed prints and mouse mats to jigsaws.

"A photograph is a moment you can cherish for ever," says Martin Keene, PA's group picture editor. Here, we showcase 20 of the agency's brightest flashes of brilliance, frozen in time for your eternal edification."

Some lovely images here. Mrs Thatcher washing up (some of us wish she'd stayed there), The Stones relaxing before playing in Hyde Park in 1969, two Daleks trying to get on a London bus, but my favourite is the Queen in picture 35. I'm not exactly a fan of Brenda, but this is just surreal.

1. Excellent one
Even better, they've somehow got the title they put in the title bar of your broswer 1 out of sync with the pictures, so that one is entitled "Referee Alan Robinson is told the world's funniest joke"; while the picture of 2 daleks trying to get on a bus is called "Queen Elizabeth II shelters from the rain at the official opening ..."

2. That's the sort of thing you used to expect from the Grauniad.
The country's going to the dogs. I remember when...

I'd still like to know the story behind pic 35. How the devil did that happen? I mean, she's not exactly known for her wacky sense of humour. Now, if it had been Charles... ... easy to understand. Too many Goon shows in his formative years.

Oh, and another clear example of why the Daleks will never take over the universe. Helpless against any army that arrives to fight them mounted on Routemaster buses.
