Poll - 22% of voters would consider voting BNP
Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 04:16 PM by Hopeless Romantic
More than a fifth of voters would consider voting for the British National Party according to the first opinion poll taken since the controversial appearance of Nick Griffin on Question Time.

Taken in the hours after Mr Griffin's appearance, the YouGov poll for The Daily Telegraph found 22 per cent of voters would seriously consider voting BNP in a future local, general or European election.

Two thirds said that they would not be considering voting BNP under any circumstances, with the rest unsure.

More than half of those questioned said that they agreed with the BNP, or thought that the party had a point, in wishing to speak up for the interests of the indigenous, white British people which successive governments have done far too little to protect.

This included 43 per cent who said that while they shared some of its concerns, they had no sympathy for the party itself.

Twelve per cent said that they completely agreed with the BNP and supported the party's decision to speak up, while 38 per cent said that they disagree totally with the BNP's political outlook.
The figures are based on a sample of 1,314 electors across Britain interviewed online from October 22-23.

1. WTF is going on in Britain?
It seemed to be fairly sane and rational when I left there six years ago.

7. The issue is immigration - Read through this

New Labour thought it would be a laugh to create a bigger multicultural society and opened up the flood gates to the extent that there have been c. 3,000,000 immigrants over the past 10 years. In doing so they knew they would stuff the Conservatives. They unfortunately overlooked the equally likely event that their own base would turn against them as a result and that is exactly what's happening. it doesn't necessarily follow that the "leavers" would vote BNP - its geographical.

Come next May/June, our next general elections , expect to to the demise of our Labour party.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch , its expected that Tony Blair will earn c. £10,000,000 this year - go figure.

Personally I like to see everyone else move here and the entire indiginous population all fuck off to somewhere warmer taking our Health Service etc with us of course.

8. I didn't suspect someone in the UK forum would buy that right-wing nonsense
The feelings over immigration have a lot to do with the hyperbole and outright lies told by racist newspapers (myths about immigrant crime, BS about free houses and cars for migrants, exaggerating the benefits paid to asylum seekers etc), as New Labour and the Tories try to out-do each other on being "tough" on immigration, while refusing to tackle the media falsehoods

"New Labour thought it would be a laugh to create a bigger multicultural society and opened up the flood gates to the extent that there have been c. 3,000,000 immigrants over the past 10 years. In doing so they knew they would stuff the Conservatives."

"Flood gates" is very Daily Mail. Does the 3 million figure include those who didn't stay and worked here temporarily? This is a favourite accounting practice of the right-wing press.

The Labour government were happy to bring Eastern European migrants in not because of some incomprehensible tactic to "stuff the Tories", but they did it to keep wages down. The City and big business were all for it as it would reduce pressure on wage bills and keep profits high and interest rates low. The Tories had the luxury of being in opposition at the time and could afford to oppose, knowing full-well that the Tories rarely go against the wishes of the City while in power. Some of the most pro-integration EU legislation was brought in by the Thatcher and Major government (the City wanted, demanded and got the Single European Act and the ERM), it was only when she was out of power that Thatcher found her full anti-EU voice.

9. It just happened to carry a Daily Mail link
Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 08:13 PM by dipsydoodle
and I sure didn't find out about it there - other papers carried it too not surprisingly.

Here's the Express for example :

The “deliberate policy”, from late 2000 until “at least February last year”, sought to lure in more migrants, he wrote in an article published yesterday. Ministers hoped to radically change the country and “rub the Right’s nose in diversity”.

Perhaps you feel like disproving the figures ?

10. The Mail and the Express are often full of stories like that
Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 08:37 PM by Anarcho-Socialist
They're not particularly reliable.

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/pdfdir/popnr0809.pdf

According to the ONS, British population has been growing annually by 0.5% since 2001, which doesn't show that we're burdened with immigration or anything. The three million figure is deceptive unless one takes into account those who stay, over those who leave after working here temporarily, and again over those British residents who emigrate elsewhere.

I maintain that the outcry over immigration is one manufactured by certain newspapers and politicians who use the race and "johnny foreigner" cards for nefarious purposes.

11. At issue was the ommision of the Oxford Economic report
The number of immigrants in the UK has increased by more than two million in the last eight years, says a Government sponsored report – that is nearly 700 a day - entirely consistent with the figure predicted by think tank Migrationwatch in 2002 which at the time was vilified by critics.

The report <1>, by Oxford Economics, was quietly slipped out on the website of the Department for Communities and Local Government last month with no attention drawn to it.

>

The Oxford economic report states ‘recent evidence indicates that the 2001 figure of 4.2 million foreign born people in the UK could have grown further by more than two million in the last eight years’.

The report, which did not include any allowance for illegal immigration, gave a more precise figure for the increase of 2.3 million. Net foreign immigration in the period 1997 – 2000 was 0.7 million bringing the total under Labour to some 3 million.

http://www.migrationwatchuk.org/pressReleases/19-October-2009

Please note the reference to "NET" figures.

My argument isn't against immmigration per se : its against uncontrolled immigration. And - that is regardless of race , creed or colour all of which should be immaterial.

14. Note that Migration Watch is a group with an agenda.
They present themselves as an objective apolitical group, and they may indeed not be linked to any political party; but their aim is explicitly to bring down immigration to a level where it does not exceed emigration. So their interpretations are in line with this view.

12. On the other hand ...
> I maintain that the outcry over immigration is one manufactured by certain
> newspapers and politicians who use the race and "johnny foreigner" cards
> for nefarious purposes.

... people who pretend that economic migrants are having no negative effect
on the British (and hence their attitude towards political parties who claim
that they will change it) are either naively optimistic or ignorant.

5. Griffin is a "work-shy pretender" - his mother-in-law
Lawlz

Nick Griffin's mother-in-law says the BNP leader is a 'racist'

Muriel Cook, 72, the mother of Griffin’s wife Jackie, described her son-in-law as a “work-shy pretender” who put his politics ahead of his family.

She said: “Nick is still a racist. He still holds those views – always has. He wants to see an all-white Britain, but that will never happen... he’s living in the Dark Ages."

Jackie Griffin, 46, met her husband in the late 1970s whilst he was a Cambridge student. Mrs Cook said that her daughter claimed he would turn his back on the far right, but when they married in 1985 he remained active and she became the main breadwinner. “She did everything – brought money into the house and raised the children. Nick played at his silly politics but never really contributed financially,” she told the Sunday Mirror.

Mrs Cook, who lives near Chester, added: “He pretends to be a man of the people, but the truth is he hasn’t done an honest day's work in his life. My daughter is a nurse and has always had a full-time job. She was working 12-hour shifts even when their children were babies.

6. BNP leader 'paid for UKIP member list'
BNP leader ‘paid for UKIP member list’

NICK GRIFFIN is to be investigated by the privacy watchdog after the BNP leader was accused of paying for a database containing the names and addresses of thousands of members of a rival party.

The database, which belonged to the UK Independence party and contained the details of about 3,500 of its members from London and the southeast, was passed to the British National party by a disaffected member in return for about £500, sources say.

The BNP then canvassed many of the people on the UKIP list asking for funds to help fight its campaign in the run-up to June’s European elections. The BNP went on to claim two seats, including one for Griffin.

Last night the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), which oversees data protection, said it would investigate. Under the terms of the Data Protection Act, anyone who sells data without authorisation from the designated “data controller” is guilty of an offence, as is the person who obtains it.
