The Conservative Party has just selected homosexual Matthew Sephton as their candidate for Salford and Eccles.

As a rival candidate I welcome Matthew to the contest for Salford and Eccles.

I very much doubt that the vast majority of the Salford and Eccles electorate will want to be represented by a prominent homosexual activist - and one who neither lives nor works in the constituency.

1. I think it's a fair bet....

...that the good folk of Salford won't want either the Tories or this joker as their MP.

All the same, it's depressing to think that it's Hazel Blears or this rubbish in Salford and Eccles.

2. Lib Dems are actually the 2nd place people there, not the Tories

UK Polling report seems to think the notional 2005 results, after the redrawing of boundaries, aren't that far off the actual 2005 results for Salford: http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/guide/seat-profiles/salfordandeccles (Tory and Lib Dem were very close in the Eccles constituency ).

But that would be a massive swing to overcome. Although it seemed like many Salfordians (?) were fed up with Blears, I don't expect that much of a change - they'd need about a third of the Labour voters to switch to the Lib Dems.
