Hopefully True Unionist Voice polls well...
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 12:40 PM by BolivarianHero
I'd love to see SDLP or SF take some Unionist strong holds because the far-right and the Nazi right split votes.

Fuck, I miss the IRA...Nobody around to keep the racist, Christian fundamentalist Paisleybots in line.

1. Yes, I imagine a lot of people who miss the IRA want TUV to do well...
Because obviously a return to the good old days of sectarian violence is exactly what Northern Ireland needs, and nothing puts racist fundamentalists in their place like blowing up a shopping centre...

2. Indeed.
And the IRA and their supporters' thoughtful humanist philosophy was so refreshing ....

3. TUV Confirms Unionist Unity Move on Marginal Seats
("Traditional Unionist Voice" is the correct name - I googled "True Unionist Voice" (ie as a phrase), and this thread was the top hit in the world)

As nominations open in the General Election, TUV has confirmed that it will not fight any of the marginal seats. It will fight only in eight safe unionist seats and two safe nationalist seats.

http://www.tuv.org.uk/press-releases/view/644/tuv-confirms-unionist-unity-move-on-marginal-seats

Looking at the NI constituencies and previous majorities, I'd say the only seat that might possibly have switched from a Unionist to a Nationalist MP was Belfast North, because it had Sinn Fein 2nd and SDLP 3rd (as opposed to another Unionist). But I think this press release means they're not going to contest it, because they hate Sinn Fein far more than they hate the DUP.

4. they did more than that, you tosser
Edited on Fri Apr-16-10 08:37 AM by miscsoc
they killed plenty of innocent people at the same time and promoted sectarian division.

i'd like those parties to take those seats too, i don't miss terrorist carnage though

i suppose it's more fun if you live in canada and don't have to experience the consequences of armed struggle. there's a reason most ni catholics don't agree with you about this, and that sf have joined the peace process. it's that they have some roots in their communities and aren't armchair republican idiots from ottawa who consider the people of northern ireland nothing more than fodder for their moronic violent fantasies.

5. Bolivarian Hero, you miss the provisional Irish Republican Army?
Please tell me you just didn't say that.

Please.

I miss having the IRA being around and all the paramilitary groups on both sides like I miss that cancerous growth on my body.

To see Gerry Adams and the Rev Ian Paisley in the same government kinda working together ... and talking... now that's something I thought I would never see the light of day but it has happened. Sure they never saw eye to eye but violence has never ever been the answer. It's heartwrenching to learn your loved ones are coming home in a wooden box. It's probably even more so if you're the person pulling the bodies out of the carnage caused by some nicely placed semtex plastic explosives.

Irish history is a bloody mess that should really be consigned to the 18th and 19th centuries but it's still carrying on in the 21st.

That's all I'll say on the topic.

6. I support Irish unity, but I don't miss the War
The N.I. state is far less sectarian than it used to be and powersharing has a lot to do with it.

The PIRA couldn't bomb the Europe's main military power out of Ireland. A silver-lining in the bloodshed is that Westminster slowly took note of the outrageous abuses suffered by Catholics in N.I. and how this led to the radicalisation taking hold in some nationalist areas.

7. You don't seriously want the IRA back?
I've noticed that those who do are much more likely to be living in North America than Northern Ireland.

And no, I'm not a fan of the Paisleyites!
