How well did the Lib Dems position themselves in the whole frontbench
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Her_Majesty%27s_Government_frontbench

NO Lib Dem in major department such as DFID. No major post held in the Home Office (PoS iin Home Office is very low down). No strong position in Justice (Mos but a member of th House of Lords?) No second lib dem in Treasury. no lib Dem in in Defra, Wales and Northern Ireland.

What a poor chess game.

1. Agreed
And no one in a really key role in Education: there is Sarah Teather, but she has no real influence on school or university funding.

And the only people in Cabinet posts were those on the negotiating team - no one else, even from quite high current (Hughes) or former (Campbell, Kennedy) leadership positions. Either all the latter refused or were sidelined. Neither of which would inspire confidence in the set-up.

It seems like the LibDems were persuaded to sell their souls and, worse for politicians, their seats in the next election for the promise of PR, which may not even materialize. Or perhaps Clegg just wanted to be Deputy Prime Minister and didn't seem to care or foresee what else happened to his party, country, or even to himself in the long term.
