Is Cameron more neo-con than Bush?
At least Bush waited for Resolution 1441 and thne invaded Iraq. Cameron has no authorisation from the UN (the latest resolution says no no fly zone) and then he's sending in M16 spies and drumming in the war beat for a no fly zone.

1. The only stories I've seen about MI6 being sent in are from the Daily Mail and the Express...
hardly what I'd call the most reliable of sources.

Worth noting that leaders of the Libyan opposition are calling for a no-fly zone, as well. The Black Watch are on 24-hour readiness (reported in reliable sources), but we're told that deployment will be limited to humanitarian operations and evacuation, and not combat, but this is no different to the official stance of the US regarding their troops in Crete. And UN resolution or no I suspect that the plan is to do an end-run around the UN by convening the Nato council to vote for a no-fly zone in Libya; France is back in Nato, has Mediterranean bases, and supports the idea of a no-fly zone, and the US is apparently warming to the idea (if the tenor of Obama's remarks on Friday is anything to go by).

2. Latest report
is that an SAS unit is in country and has been captured. Not US Seals not any other countries forces. Cameron is the one drumming about the NFZ, Clinton and Gates says yes but are wary of it. France didnt really say they'll allow basing rights and over flights--even then French air bases are too far away and require over water air refueling. Malta can't sustain fighters. Italy maybe. But all the hawkish talk is coming from Cameron and Hague and others (funnily enough not the Lib Dems). So he's the new neo-con of this decade?

talking to rebel leaders and have now been freed. Make of that what you will

BTW it will take World War 3 to get Prince Andrew and his dodgy pals off page 1 of the Tabloids in the UK.

Still it was a nice try by Cameron.

4. Another Bravo Two Zero
I thought the SAS would note been so stupid as to be captured. They've performed well in Sierra Leone and Afghanistan...

Still back to the point, I'm hoping for the Chief of the Defence Staff to tell Cameron it is geographically impossible to have a NFZ unless France and Italy says yes to basing rights.
