1. If you really want to be suffused with a warm glow...
Edited on Fri Apr-22-11 04:02 AM by LeftishBrit
you can read this from the blog of a priest in my town (Anglo-Catholic but not in the Ordinariate):

http://liturgicalnotes.blogspot.com/2011/04/national-unity-again.html

Although less common than in America, we do have a certain contingent of religious right-wingers who can't decide whom they hate more: (1) secularists; (2) liberal Christians, from Rowan Williams and Vincent Nichols downwards; (3) members of other religions, especially Muslims. Notably, several of these types blog for the Torygraph.

... of the NUT Conference, which I'm attending this year!

Cheers!

3. Wow, he really hits every right wing button, doesn't he?
Looking at that blog, I think you need to add to your list of their hates (4) women who brazenly tempt us with bare flesh, and have the cheek to say the burqa should only be a personal choice, rather than something their upstanding menfolk can force on them.

5. Among much else on his blog...
he repeatedly refers to the President of the United States as 'The abortionist Obama'.

12. The most telling response was when someone posted the words
"We'll always have room for you in Texas, Father".

8. Which muslims?
Worse than some, I'd say.

Isn't it a fact that, by definition, the patriarchal religions are always going to have problems with women?

9. The one's who insist that they cover their hair and faces and the ones
who consider it sinful for girls to be educated and the ones who think that females should have their genitals mutilated and sewn up so that they will remain faithful wives and the ones who expect their wives to walk several paces behind them and the ones who consider it just for a man to beat his wives with a stick and the ones who think that polygamy is acceptable and the ones who kill their daughters for "dishonouring" the family and the one's who will not allow women to drive or hold employment and the ones who believe that females should are entitled to only half the inheritance of their male siblings and the ones who say that the testimony of a man is worth that of two women and so on and so forth.

I don't know why it is acceptable to say "Christians who think that women are Grade Two humans" but a comparison with Muslims is immediately jumped on.

(For the record, I am neither)

10. The comments were not about 'Christians'...
but about a particular group of decidedly reactionary Christians who are rebelling against the mainstream Anglican leadership because of their ordaining women (also usually seeing them as too liberal in other ways).

Yes, there are plenty of reactionary Muslims who treat women as inferior.

But there are also Muslims who resist this. Here's an example, also from my backyard:

13. clitoridectomy is an Afro/Arabic cultural thing(and I'm not saying this as a defender of it)
It did not originate with Islam.

11. As I understand it...the entire argument against women bishops(and, before that, women priests)
Edited on Sun May-01-11 04:46 AM by Ken Burch
Is based on the fact(or at least the "fact" that was passed down in the male-edited Gospels)that none of Christ's original Apostles were women.

You'd think someone would point out that none of them were European, either. and that all of them were circumcised and that all kept kashruth.

And it's damn certain that none at all were rasher-eating Englishmen.
