3. Done
... and Ian Lavery, my MP, has also replied to the 38 degrees letter to say he's supporting the anti-Murdoch motion.

2. I've e-mailed my MP via 38 Degrees
And unusally she's replied very promply! the reply is below.

http://www.38degrees.org.uk/page/speakout/email-your-mp-about-murdoch

Thank you very much for your recent email about Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation and the phone hacking revelations.

The culture and practices at Murdoch’s News International appear to be widespread. The situation keeps changing. There is new evidence and more revelations are made each hour. That is why Labour MPs won’t rest until there has been a full and proper inquiry. There are a number of things that must happen if we are to deal with these practices.

The police should complete their investigation and there should be tough punishments for those who have behaved so appallingly. The judge-led inquiry that we demanded, and that David Cameron has now agreed to, needs to start immediately.

The ineffective Press Complaints Commission needs to be reformed. David Cameron has now agreed this is necessary. This new body must be tough enough to enforce decisions on newspapers.

Rebekah Brooks’ position is untenable at News International.

Rupert Murdoch must reconsider his bid for BSkyB. It doesn’t have public support.

Any bid for BSkyB should pass a fit and proper person test. It should also protect the broader ownership of British media from the dominance of one organisation. I will continue to call for Murdoch’s bid to be referred to the independent Competition Commission. The Secretary of State Jeremy Hunt has finally written to them, as well as OFCOM, to ask for their advice.

The Government’s position is shifting. If they agree with what needs to be done, then we won’t need to push them with a vote on Wednesday. Instead of chaos and confusion we need straight talk from the Government. I will keep pushing them to do the decent thing, to explain what has happened and make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

If I can help with any other matter please let me know.

With all good wishes

Natascha

4. I also e-mailed my MP..
so far just got the form letter to say that her office had received it. I'm not expecting too much there (a Tory twit whom I despise); but if the pressure is sufficient she *just* might go with what seems to be a prevailing wind

5. I'm not exactly a fan of my MP
Natascha Engel tends to be either very slow in answering correspondance or doesn't reply at all. The fact that she was very quick to reply this time suggests to me that Labour MP's might be getting whipped by their party leadership on this subject.
